ASW STUDENTS AND THEIR 2017 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

New Year is a time when everyone tries to change their flaws and become a better person. I’ve asked few of the ASW HS students to talk about their New Year’s resolution for 2017. Will 2017 be New Year New ASW?

What was your 2016 New Year’s resolution? Did you accomplish it?:

My New Year’s resolution of last year was to work hard to keep myself staying strong during the crazy year-long stretch between second semester of Junior year right up through the time of college applications. I think I did it—I finished strong last spring, managed to handle my first semester of senior year, and now I’ve been accepted to the school I was hoping for!

What’s your 2017 New Year’s resolution?:

Last year has made me confident about my new resolution. Last year, I focused on schools, grades, deadlines… It stretched my stamina but not my horizons. This year, I want to shift that focus outwards. I need to be ready to take my exams and handle my first semester of college, of course—but that won’t work if I don’t take some time to reach out to my own curiosities, drives, and goals that live outside of this academic world.

Why did you choose this goal(s)?:

What does that look like? I want to become closer to the outdoors, which I value even if sometimes I forget to engage with. I’m going to take more time to run, work out, go climbing or cross-country skiing. Moreover, when I get to college I want to take enough time to connect with others, become steadfast friends whom I’ll stand by and who will stand by me during the stresses of college. I want to write music and poetry for its own sake, take creative risks, learn a useless skill, love silly things unashamedly, over think less and feel more.

Do you think it’s realistic for you to accomplish the 2017 goals?:

My New Year’s Resolution is to remember the parts of life that high school makes it easy to forget. Can I achieve it?

Well, I can’t wait to try.

I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions. If you want to accomplish something or make a change in your daily habits, why wait until January of a new year? Having said that, I am trying to focus on working out more this year:) I feel like I have let the last few months get away from me and I am trying to make a conscious effort to workout or do some activity at least 6 days a week.
